If you are working within hearing care or looking to start your career as a Hearing Care Assistant, and want to build safe, practical and supervised clinical skills, this Hearing Care Assistant Course is designed for you.

This course supports delegates in developing the confidence to assist with key areas of patient care, including ear examination, hearing assessments, ear impressions, tympanometry, hearing aid support, and hearing maintenance. The training is delivered by expert audiologists and focuses on safe practice, clear clinical processes, and the role of a Hearing Care Assistant within a supervised hearing care setting.

This is ideal if you are employed by an HCPC-registered Hearing Aid Dispenser and will continue to work under direct supervision throughout your training and practice.

Please note: our course spans three alternating weeks, running Wednesday to Friday (9 days in total) for an intensive clinical training program.

Who Is This Course For

This course is designed for delegates who work in hearing care or want to begin a career as a Hearing Care Assistant. To enrol, delegates must be employed by an HCPC-registered Hearing Aid Dispenser or Audiologist and remain under direct supervision for the duration of the course.

  1. Perform a safe and effective ear examination using otoscopy. 
  2. Take accurate, high-quality aural impressions. 
  3. Carry out pure-tone audiometry to assess hearing and make referrals if required. 
  4. Have an understanding of tympanometry and its use in assessing middle ear function and common abnormalities.
  5. Understand the impact of hearing impairment on communication and quality of life. 
  6. Support patients through the hearing rehabilitation process with clear advice and reassurance. 
  7. Complete a basic hearing aid first fit. 
  8. Make simple adjustments to meet client needs using top technologies.  
  9. Service, maintain and complete basic troubleshooting and repairs of hearing aids.  
  10. Obtain informed consent and maintain accurate clinical documentation.  
  11. Follow professional standards for record keeping.  
  12. Communicate effectively with patients throughout their hearing care journey.  
  13. Work safely, professionally and within the scope of practice as a Hearing Care Assistant. 
  14. Recognise when to seek advice or refer to a registered Hearing Aid Dispenser or Audiologist. 

Assessment and competency sign-off

Assessment and competency sign-off are an important part of the Hearing Care Assistant Course. 

 

Delegates must complete the full course programme and meet all assessment requirements before the competency sign-off is awarded. This supports safe practice and helps ensure delegates are ready to apply their skills within a supervised hearing care environment. 

 

The competency sign-off will be awarded only where the delegate has demonstrated the required knowledge, practical ability, and professional standards expected by the course.
